Random Episode Review – The Last Temptation of Krust

“The Last Temptation of Krust” is one of those episodes from season nine that you don’t know what to think of at first, but then you realize that it’s a gem in the rough. The episode is solid, albeit the slightly weakling at the end, and hilarious/enjoyable. Season nine embodies the last hope {season 10/parts of 11 may vouch for that as well, but for the sake of the review let’s just say season 9} of hilarity and the nice touch that “The Simpsons” had before we delve into the wack.

This episode has a nice feel to it – one that I cannot explain without sounding like a complete buffoon – and has nice lines, banters, and solid animation. Krusty is explored for the first time in awhile, for being the crusty (pun not intended) has-been comedian that he tries to deny. The appearance of Jay Leno was a random one, but he gave it his all so it was a nice appearance nonetheless.  This episode is one of my favorites – for the reason of the animation, the solidness of the storyline, and the hilarity/character approach… and of course, the feeling that I cannot explain without acting like an idiot. Something else that I enjoy is that it was not a rehash of “Krusty Gets Kancelled” and made its own plot.

The colors in this episode, the “nightclub” atmosphere at Moe’s and the drunken binge especially, are vivacious and quite enjoyable. As I said above, the animation is fine – showing some of those quirks that make us love “The Simpsons” even more – and  of course, being solid.

The characterizations in this episode are spot on, with a little shakiness on Krusty’s part; but we’ll let that slide. Bart , the rest of the Simpsons family, Jay Leno for that matter, are all good with their emotions and are given well and executable dialogue for all characters. The end, with Krusty shelling out to the promotion, was the shakiness I was referring to above – we all know Krusty is cheap, but ending this episode with that ending is just… I don’t know.

Overall, this episode is hilarious and enjoyable; somewhat “cheesy” too. It’s a great addition to season nine, where as I said above still holds on to some of that hint of “The Simpsons” we ever so love, and a great addition to watch. While I necessarily wouldn’t recommend it all the time, you better rerun it sooner or later because it is one of the highlights of the season.
